The 2015/2016 season was a shocking one for many teams in one way or another. There were those that defied all odds and qualified for the Champions League, and those that had meltdowns and will end up missing the competition.

For the ones that have made it, a great challenge is ahead of them, with some having to go through the grueling qualification stages just to make the next round of the competition. For those that have missed out, a missed opportunity that reflects poorly on the club and its players.

These 5 teams that are missing Champions League football for the 2016/2017 campaign are all clubs that in the fans and owners’ eyes should be in the competition year in and year out. Though some have missed by slim margins and unlucky injuries, others have just had terrible seasons that they can not get over fast enough.
