Bill Hamid joins the Portland Timbers

The Portland Timbers are the reigning MLS Cup Champions. They have explosive offensive talent like Darlington Nagbe, Fanendo Adi, and Diego Valeri. Defensive stalwart Nat Borchers is one of the best in the business. But one spot on the pitch that leaves something to be desired, is between the pipes. Jake Gleeson has been Portland’s primary goalkeeper, and he has performed at a respectable, average level. He has two shutouts in 11 starts this season, that’s one less than DC United’s Bill Hamid has in only five starts.

One of the most consistent, stifling goalkeepers in MLS the past decade, Hamid has returned from injury at full speed, shutting down attackers, and commanding his backline in the Capital City. Hamid in goal for the Timbers would be a nightmare for attackers.

Imagine Timber Joey and the raucous crowd in Providence Park chanting after a Hamid diving save, that is not a fun atmosphere for an opponent. Hamid in goal would certainly get the Timbers goal differential out of the negatives, and push the defending champs above the Western Conference playoff cut.
