4. Vincent Kompany

Kompany is hugely important to any side he’s in. Separation makes the heart grow fonder, right? Just ask City and Belgium fans this year. When Kompany wasn’t around, calamity ensued in his absence.

That’s the biggest argument in lifting Kompany up the squad rankings. He’s extremely important for the teams that he’s in.

The Belgian just turned 30 this past April but he has more than a few years deputizing the backline in Manchester thanks to his position. Kompany has made two games shy of 300 appearances for City since his arrival from Hamburg SV in 2008.

Guardiola will be lucky to have Kompany in the team as long as he’s fit. While he’s no Jerome Boateng, he’s more than comfortable enough on the ball and certainly competent enough to transition the ball into the midfield.

The City captain has lifted five major trophies during his time in Manchester, two Premier Leagues, two League Cups and one FA Cup, as well as a Community Shield, and with Guardiola that number is primed to rise.

As long as Kompany stays fit, like others in the team, then they’ll be able to compete on all fronts. Their squad is deep and the top of it is world-class and now they have one of the best managers in the world. Plus they still have laughable amounts of money and the owners surely will arm the manager with whatever assets he needs to be successful.
