I could research de Gea’s save percentages, goals against, crosses claimed and other advanced statistics to underline the very simple fact that you already know: David de Gea is so, so good. Without him, Manchester United wouldn’t have qualified for the Champions League two years ago and wouldn’t have been in that race for so long last season.

Mourinho gets to walk into the best keeper in the league, he goes from Cech to Courtois to de Gea. That feels unfair.

De Gea has been the super band aid to cover knife wounds to a gutted defense. Seriously, he had Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia and others defending ahead of him and he was still saving United time after time.

Next season with the attacking talent they have, United shouldn’t be uber reliant on their star goalkeeper. Plus the defensive nature of Mourinho should help alleviate all of the pressure on de Gea.

The 25-year-old has made 224 appearances for United since he joined the Manchester club in 2011, when he joined from Atletico Madrid for £18million.

De Gea clearly deserves to be the Premier League’s number one keeper and one of the top players overall. In FIFA 16, he was an 87 and deserves a promotion, putting him at 88, one of the top three projected in the Prem for FIFA 17.
