5. Cameron Carter-Vickers

As I mentioned in relation to Dominic Ball, Tottenham have been actively searching for a fourth centre-back this summer. Young American Cameron Carter-Vickers is the starlet with the best chance to fill that role within the squad.

It might be a year early for Carter-Vickers to really be counted on, but it’s not as if Pochettino has ever shied away from throwing youth right into the fire. If Carter-Vickers can put in a few commanding ICC performances he might be able to convince Pochettino that he’s ready to contribute now.

At some level, you have to believe that Tottenham officials are hoping that Carter-Vickers can do just that. Plugging him in as the club’s fourth choice centre back would be much easier (and cheaper) than bringing in a young prospect from outside the club.

The other alternative, would be Carter-Vickers showing enough to secure a high quality loan away from Spurs next season. He could really benefit from a high-level Championship loan to get use to the stress and physical pressure of senior team football. A strong ICC showing could catapult his career into a very beneficial loan move.
