4. Cameron Carter-Vickers has a chance, Dominic Ball may not

Both Cameron Carter-Vickers and Dominic Ball started the match in pretty horrific fashion. They both looked entirely out of their depth during the opening stanza and easily could have let in more than the 2 goals Juventus managed in the first 45 minutes.

Fortunately for Tottenham fans, at least one of their young central defenders managed to grow into the match. Cameron Carter-Vickers really stabilized his performance level as the match went on. If he can build on his second half performance against Juve it is entirely possible that he’ll be able to earn the fourth centre-back spot for Spurs.

While Carter-Vickers grew into the match, Dominic Ball never seemed to find solid footing. His giveaway gifted Paulo Dybala his opening goal and his mental confidence never seemed to recover. Frankly, he’s going to have to step up his performance drastically as preseason goes on if he’s going to have a prayer of sticking with the senior squad.

The odds are still stacked against either man grabbing the fourth centre back spot next season. Ball is likely to see another loan move and Carter-Vickers could benefit from the same. Pochettino will hope to see both men play much better as the preseason goes on.
