When you think Everton defenders, surely the first name to come to mind is John Stones. And why wouldn’t it be? The talented young CB has been sought after by the big clubs for a solid year now. And after Stones, maybe you think of Leighton Baines, the aging English international with a gift for set pieces, who was once the EPL’s top left back.

Maybe that’s why Seamus Coleman flies under the radar at Goodison Park. A first-choice right back for six years now, Coleman rose from the Ireland’s top division as a teenager and has enjoyed steady success at Everton.

Coleman’s best season with the Toffees came in 2013-14. Under then-first-year manager Roberto Martinez, he helped lead Everton to near Champions League qualification with six goals. He earned a PFA Team of the Year spot and the Everton Player of the Year award as well.

Offensive Outlook

Strong for Everton, less so for Ireland. In seven years with the first team, Coleman has scored 14 league goals. Six is his high-water mark, but he’s been good for a couple every season in which he’s been fit. For Ireland, which struggles to score as is, Coleman has yet to break through with a goal in 38 appearances for the senior national squad.
