DM Ramires

Mourinho’s first year in his second stint as Chelsea manager also marked the last season Ramires was a key member of the first team, making 30 appearances in the Premier League before that number would dip to 24 the year after then 12 last season until he made the money rich move to China halfway through the season.

DM Frank Lampard

The aforementioned missed penalty, yeah, that was Lampard. The Chelsea legend stepped up from 12 yards away from goal but saw his effort saved. Apparently 12 was too close for him as he scored from a long distance free kick later in the match. Oh, Lampard.

Though his season started off well enough, it’d turn out to be his last for Chelsea. Lampard failed to reach double-digit goals in the Premier League for the first time in a decade, *only* netting six, which is still a decent enough figure from the midfield.

Mourinho and Chelsea acquiesced to his departure that summer by not renewing his contract. He signed with New York City FC in MLS, which placated the fans a bit as their legend was at least joining a retirement league, before Lampard stayed in England for another season “on loan” from NYCFC to Manchester City. It was a surreptitious and dubious “loan” move that incited anger from Chelsea fans and embarrassment for the MLS.
