1. Memphis Depay

Memphis Depay might be the complete antithesis of what Jose Mourinho wants out of an attacking player. In short, he’s the very definition of the sort of “luxury player” that The Special One despises.

Memphis has seemed to be more concerned with his car collection than his actual football this summer. That’s not a good sign for a player who was roundly criticized for letting his nightlife impede his career development last year.

I suppose it’s possible that Memphis could view Mourinho’s arrival at Old Trafford as a lifeline, but I find that wildly optimistic. It’s much more likely to signal a death sentence for the Dutch attacker’s time at Old Trafford.

More from Manchester United

Mourinho prioritizes hard-working wingers who always track back and pitch in to the team’s defensive collective. Memphis can’t be bothered to contribute on the defensive end of the pitch because of his unbridled desire to attack at all costs. Perhaps if he scored a lot of goals that would be a trade worth making, but that just isn’t the reality of his game at this point.

Memphis Depay has plenty of time to revive his football career, but Jose Mourinho won’t be the manager to help him reach his full potential. Look for Memphis to leave United as one of the larger flops in the club’s transfer history.
