Reason #9: JonJo Shelvey

One of the few bright spots of the 2015-2016 campaign for Newcastle was the play of midfielder JonJo Shelvey. The former England international came to the club in January and had an immediate positive effect. His passing and deep runs helped Newcastle build attacking chances late in the season and at least gave them a chance to stave off relegation.

What will be interesting to see is how his relationship with Colback continues to grow. Shelvey is a bit more of an attacking center-mid while Colback likes to play as more of a defensive midfielder. Both are excellent passers so they will likely work with one another on linking plays to get Newcastle from a defensive posture to setting up attacking chances.

Although Shelvey could likely be playing in the Premier League having this chance with Newcastle will be good for his career. After having been shuttled through various Premier League sides over the last few years he will have the chance to play quality minutes and get into form. He is also just 24 years old and if give time still has the opportunity to become an exceptional English midfielder.
