Liverpool’s Scouse Cafu, Jon Flanagan, has made a loan move to Burnley FC that is hoped to reignite his career with regular first team action in the Premier League.

Three years ago Jon Flanagan burst onto the scene as an injury enforced change in the 2013-14 Liverpool first team under then manager Brendan Rodgers. At the time Flanagan was only 19-years-old but he put in some inspired performances that helped him be an integral part of the almost was title campaign in Steven Gerrard’s last season with the club.

Since then it has been a tough roller coaster ride for the now 23-year-old as injuries saw him miss 20 months of action finally being declared fit enough to play under Jurgen Klopp in January of 2016 and made his 50th appearance for the club on the last day of the 2015-16 season against West Brom.

With the focus this season for the Reds being on building Jurgen Klopp’s own side that has seen a host of movement both in and out of the club in an effort to set the club up for success both in the immediate campaign but also for the future.

There is no doubt that Flanagan is a part of the club’s future having seen Klopp sign him to a new long-term contract in May of 2016, but the most important thing for Flanagan this season is getting back to full fitness.

With that in mind, a loan move to newly returned top flight side Burnley is a match made in heaven for both the club and fans at Turf Moor but for the young Scouse defender and manager Sean Dyche.

Dyche has a great track record with nurturing young players such as Danny Ings who made the jump to Liverpool last season before an unfortunate injury saw him join Flanagan on the sidelines for the majority of 2015-16.

With the opportunity to play in the first team regularly against Premier League opposition, Flanagan has the chance to regain his fitness and form. A plan which is hoped will see him return to Liverpool next season ready to take the first steps into the prime of his career as a strong competitor for a first team left back for the Reds as well as providing squad depth for a side that is hoped to be back in European action following a strong 2016-17 campaign.

Burnley fans are going to see a passionate professional that will give his all for the cause and Flanagan could well be a cult hero for the Clarets before the end of the campaign. Sean Dyche will have a left-sided defender that not only improves his back line but also has the ability to contribute on the counter attack as well.

With all parties considered, this is a loan move that could be career redefining for Flanagan and season making for the Clarets defense and is another great piece of business for the Reds this summer.
