Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Andre Blake

Andre Blake’s talent is not a mystery in the MLS. He was the All Star Game starter against Arsenal, and only allowed an early penalty past him. He’s well on his way to being an MLS superstar. But a strong second half to secure a top seed for the Cinderella Philadelphia Union?

That would get him there. The club added Alejandro Bedoya during the summer transfer window this week, and that will bring even more surprise expectations on the second bottom finishers from last season.

Blake will need to continue to grow with fellow promising prospects on the defense, Keegan Rosenberry, Joshua Yaro, and Richie Marquez. The Jamaican national team keeper will need to step up big in important matches for Philadelphia to at least maintain their fourth seed position. While the attack adjusts to the loss of Sebastien Le Toux, and the addition of Charlie Davies, it will be vital for Blake to allow the Union a good chance of winning low scoring matches.

This Reggae Boy will need to be even better than he was in the first half of the season, a challenge Blake will likely accept.
