3. Spurs badly need another attacking midfielder

For a man seeking a rich new contract, Christian Eriksen didn’t do himself any favors against Everton. The Danish midfielder was badly out of sorts for most of the match. Unfortunately, Pochettino didn’t really have a viable alternative to bring off the bench to replace him.

Most people already believed that Spurs were in the market for a player to push Eriksen, and the Everton match only reinforced that line of thinking. He failed to really influence the match in any meaningful way. His weak performance was a promotional video for Spurs fans who think he isn’t good enough to be the starting number ten.

Dele Alli wasn’t a superstar either. His work rate is better than Eriksen’s, but he didn’t seem to have any success creating anything in the final third either. He was fortunate to finish the match, and likely would have been subbed off had Eriksen not played so poorly.

The one shining light in the attacking midfield trio was Erik Lamela. As usual, he was an absolute pest for Tottenham’s opponent, and he added the crucial equalizer via a brilliant second half header. He made my prediction that he’ll lead the club in scoring look pretty good.

Tottenham need a high-profile purchase to increase their attacking midfield options. It needs to be a more accomplished player than Georges-Kevin N’Koudou as well.
