Which Tottenham players make the grade?

Tottenham have managed to earn five points from their opening three Premier League matches on the season. It’s neither the blistering start Spurs fans dreamed or the catastrophe that made up our nightmares. It’s a pretty mediocre start for a club with such quality.

Such an average start naturally causes fans to question which players are to blame. While three matches certainly isn’t a large enough portion of the Premier League season from which to draw permanent conclusions, it still gives us enough match time to identify some trends.

For example, we’ve seen enough of Michel Vorm to realize he’s a perfectly competent backup keeper. He isn’t going to unseat Hugo Lloris for the starting job, but he has more than held his own in relief of the Frenchman.

We also can reasonably conclude that Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen are really going to help the club as the season progresses. No one is ready to anoint either of them King of White Hart Lane, but they’ve certainly demonstrated clear promise. Both men represent savvy purchases by the club.

Of course, the news isn’t so rosy for every Tottenham starter. Several prominent Spurs have received significant criticism from fans and pundits alike. Some stars deserve that malice, while others are being unfairly vilified.

Read on to discover how each Tottenham star who’s started a match this season grades out. It’s a mixed bag befitting of a pretty mediocre Spurs start.
