7. Argentina

Argentina produces some of the world’s most prolific players. It’s only in recent years that the South American country’s biggest soccer names have been making a name for themselves in England.

Gabriel Heinze was one of the first prominent Argentinian defenders in the Premier League. He spent 2004-2007 with Manchester United before moving on to Real Madrid.

Perhaps the biggest move involving Argentine players in England occurred on transfer deadline day 2006. West Ham made the surprise announcement that the club had signed striker Carlos Tevez and midfielder Javier Mascherano from Brazilian side Corinthians. Tevez ended up saving West Ham’s Premier League status before moving on to successful stints with both Manchester United and Manchester City. Mascherano moved from West Ham to Liverpool and is currently at Barcelona.

One of the longest-serving Argentinians in the EPL was Newcastle center back Fabricio Coloccini who spent eight seasons on Tyneside from 2008-2016.

Manchester City currently have the most players from Argentina on the books. This includes star striker Sergio Aguero, keeper Willy Caballero and defenders Martin Demichelis, Nicolas Otamendi and Pablo Zabaleta.

Crystal Palace keeper Julian Speroni has made 359 appearances since joining the Londoners from SPL side Dundee in 2004.

Other notable Argentines presently in the league include Tottenham winger Erik Lamela and Leicester City striker Leonardo Ulloa.

In total, there are currently 15 players from Argentina on the books in the Premier League.
