Expect big changes at Chelsea in January

It’s very obvious to any football fan that Chelsea are not firing on all cylinders at the moment. At the very least, they’re falling short of new boss Antonio Conte’s lofty standards. That unfortunate reality will lead serious January changes at Stamford Bridge.

Those changes will be even more severe if Conte, as expected, switches the Blues to his favorite 3-5-2 formation. He obviously doesn’t have the personnel to implement that change at the moment, but he isn’t terribly far away. Many assume that the Deadline Day purchase of David Luiz was a clear signal of Conte’s impending formational switch.

Really, the question isn’t if Chelsea will sell off players in January, it’s who the club will elect to part with. I’m of the opinion that Conte is pretty fed up with his current cast of characters. He’s going to be looking not only to improve his squad, but also to send a stern message to players who’ll be staying with the club. Things simply have to change.
