Top World Cup Winners All-Time: Number Twelve – Brazil, 1958

Brazil and football are synonymous. Long have they been a powerhouse of the world footballing stage and the national team is the only team to take part in every single World Cup competition.

1958 was the first time Brazil would win the cup but far from their last. It was the start of their footballing dynasty, one that hit its peak in the World Cups to follow.

Arguably the greatest footballer of all time, Pele, made his World Cup debut at the ripe age of 17 in the ’58 World Cup and he played his part in bringing home the title in Sweden. He scored a brace in the conclusive 5-2 final win over host Sweden and a hat trick in the semi’s against free-scoring France.

In the end, Brazil complete dominance was unbeatable. They won both the final and the semis by a tally of 5-2. Quite the feat. It was a superb win by the Brazilians, but merely the first of many.
