Top World Cup Winners All-Time: Number Nine – Brazil, 1962

Brazil’s 1962 World Cup team defined what it was to be statistically and wholly superior to everyone else in the competition. Their +9 goal differential was greater than any other two teams combined. They scored the most, gave up the least, and never lost a game. Hard to be more convincing than that.

What makes this World Cup win even more impressive is that it was Pele’s moment to shine. He accounted for both goals in the opening match with an assist and a goal. But after injuring himself in the second match and being forced out for the duration of the tournament, Brazil had to get creative.

Clearly, it worked, as Brazil did make the most out of the tournament.

Still, it’s hard to rank this Brazil team over the other major ones where Pele played a bigger role, seeing as how he is the greatest player to ever play the beautiful game.
