Top World Cup Winners All-Time: Number Three – Germany, 2014

Germany’s most powerful side of all time will always be remembered for their 7-1 destruction of Brazil in the semi-finals, on Brazil’s turf. This German team truly defined the meaning of the word ‘team.’ They didn’t win the top player or the golden boot. They didn’t have a superstar. They moved and operated as a unit.

It was the pinnacle of what every previous German side had tried to become, and they mastered it.

While Thomas Muller was a big part of Germany’s goal production, he scored just five of the giant’s 18 goals in the competition. Five other German’s scored more than two goals, and five different German’s totaled an assist.

As an opposing team, how do you close down a team that doesn’t have a blade or a focal point? It’s like defending against an amorphous blog when you never know which part of the blob is going to reach out and slap you.
