Top World Cup Winners All-Time: Number One – Brazil, 1970

No team has ever (or likely will ever) look as complete as Brazil’s 1970 World Cup side. Whereas Argentina’s 1986 win was centered on the heroics of Diego Maradona, the 1970 World Cup was centered on pure attacking brilliance. It wasn’t just Pele. In fact, Pele only netted four goals compared to a massive seven by Jairzinho

Seven different Brazilians netted in this pure, attacking artistry

Literally, everything went right. There was no stopping them, as can be attested to by the utter dominance all the way through the knockout stages. Brazil scored 11 goals in the last three matches alone, leaving no room for doubt who the rightful champions were.

All you need to see to illustrate the pure dominance is who scored in those last three matches. Only once did a single Brazilian score more than one goal in a game. The quarter finals saw two goals from Tostao, one from Jairzinho and one from Rivellino. The semis was Jairzinho, Clodoaldo, and Rivellino. The finals was Jairzinho, Pele, Gerson and Carlos Alberto.

Complete attacking dominance. That’s all it was.
