Ranking All Twenty World Cup Winners

Top World Cup Winners All-Time: Number Seventeen – Uruguay – 1950
The 1950 World Cup in Brazil seemed handpicked for the host nation. After showing dominance in the first round of the group stage, the second round of the group showed even more power by the Brazilians. In the bizarre final round group stage, Brazil scored 14 goals, beating Sweden 7-1 and Spain 6-1.
The finished the group with a +10 goal differential. Yet they lost the World Cup because Uruguay, one of the most untested World Cup teams in the competitions history, won the game that mattered, taking down the host 2-1 after Brazil had probably scored itself out, netting 13 times in their previous two games.
Uruguay’s path was odd. Their initial group was composed of just them and Bolivia, as France withdrew, leaving Uruguay with just one match to play, which they won 8-0.
Therefore the Uruguayans played just four games this competition, and this was the first time the best team did not win the World Cup.
