Victor Wanyama-8

It’s hard to believe Tottenham were able to purchase a player of Wanyama’s quality for just 11 million pounds. Southampton fans have to be sick every time they see him take the pitch for Spurs.

Today, Wanyama provided his usual physical presence in the middle of the pitch. He set the tone early against City’s attackers with several stern challenges. He took the fight to City from the opening whistle of the match.

He gets downgraded slightly for a few semi-rash challenges, but that’s being pretty particular. It was a really good showing for Wanyama patrolling the defensive midfield.

Erik Lamela-6

Lamela was the weakest Tottenham player on the day. He just couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end of the pitch. Fans will remember the penalty he failed to convert, and that was pretty typical of his performance on the afternoon.

The only good news is that Lamela didn’t let his offensive failures affect his effort level. He still put in a solid, competitive shift on the defensive end of the pitch. It was still an individual performance he’d like to forget.
