Left Centre Back-Jan Vertonghen

It wasn’t that long ago when many Tottenham fans thought it might be time to give Vertonghen’s starting spot to Kevin Wimmer. The classy Belgian defender has made those fans look foolish with his production this season.

Ignore Vertonghen’s highly questionable body language and you’ll see a very solid centre back. In many ways, he’s just a lesser version of Alderweireld. He might be slightly better in the air, but he isn’t quite the skillful player on the ball.

That may sound like a slight, but I promise you it’s not. I believe Alderweireld is the best central defender in England, being a level below him still means you’re an excellent defender.

Kevin Wimmer might be ready to take over for Vertonghen soon, but it’s not time to make the switch yet. Super Jan deserves to keep his place next to Alderweireld in the Spurs starting XI.
