Antonio Valencia – £15 million
Unlike some of the veterans we’ve discussed, Valencia has experienced a renaissance of sorts this season. His Whoscored.com player rating average of 7.35 on the season is good for fifth place in the squad.
The only thing that limits Valencia’s value is his age. Not many clubs are going to pay a premium for a 31-year-old wing back. United are better off keeping him until his performance really begins to drop off sharply.
Luke Shaw – £35 million
The bloom has come off the rose ever-so-slightly for the English left back. He still has the look of a promising youngster, but his game hasn’t progressed quite like many United fans had hoped.
He’s likely still returning to top form after his gruesome leg injury. Jose Mourinho isn’t one for patience though. He wants to see Shaw’s form improve immediately. The Special One has even kicked the tires on a few potential replacements for Shaw.
All in all, I expect Shaw to stay at Old Trafford, but his place isn’t as assured as it once was. A big transfer offer might tempt the club to turn the page on their left back position.
Ashley Young – £8 million
The 31-year-old defender has made two Premier League appearances on the season for Mourinho and will be lucky to see many more matches. His weak performances make him a real candidate for a January sale.
Any transaction for Young will be more about clearing a spot on the squad as opposed to making a transfer profit. No reasonable offer for Young will be refused.
