Tottenham projected starting XI vs West Brom
The Fullbacks
I’ve gone on record several times with my belief that Danny Rose and Kyle Walker form the best fullback pairing in the Premier League. Tottenham can be dominant with both men in the starting XI. Unfortunately, I don’t believe that will be the case on Saturday.
In his pre-match press conference, Pochettino referenced a few injuries to players that he didn’t want to elaborate on. My best guess, is that the gaffer was referring to one of his fullbacks.
After all, both men were involved for England during the International Break. Each star also plays at full speed at all times. Neither knows how to play at half-speed to avoid injury.
Kyle Walker deserves a rest and Kieran Trippier deserves a Premier League start. Given the amount of possession that Spurs are likely to enjoy, playing Trippier could be the perfect play. His ability to drill excellent crosses into the box could unlock the Pulis defense.
I actually believe Pochettino is going to deploy both of his second choice fullbacks at the Hawthorns. Ben Davies can hold up against West Brom’s rather predictable attack and Rose could also use the rest before Tuesday’s match. Tottenham will make fine use of their bench on Saturday at both fullback spots.
