3. Liverpool won’t worry about Europe

Jurgen Klopp is free to select his ideal starting XI free from concerns about Europa League football. In contrast, Jose Mourinho must make his selections with an eye towards his club’s matchup against Fenerbahce in the midweek.

That doesn’t mean that Mourinho won’t choose a strong XI at Anfield, but it might necessitate one or two curious lineup choices. In a match between two such evenly matched teams, that kind of change can greatly impact the match’s outcome.

This will be a common theme for Liverpool against many of its competitors for the Premier League title. The Liverpool faithful would much prefer to be concerned with Champions League football, but this season they’ll use their lack of European football to focus all of their energy on the Premier League.

The Europa League may prove to be more than a mild annoyance to Manchester United fans on Monday. It may very well change their lineup enough to cost them three points at Anfield.
