Juventus: Three hopes, one fear
By Sean Maslin
No Pogba no problem for Juventus?
It is never easy losing a 23-year-old superstar. In the history of football teams have risen and fallen based off of their ability to either secure promising players long-term or if they do lose them to prepare for the worst. How teams adjust in the aftermath of these big transactions plays a large decision in whether or not they will be successful going forward.
That is the situation that Juventus find themselves in. After a long offseason of courtship Paul Pogba finally left for Manchester United for a deal around 105 million euros. While that is certainly a very nice transfer value it did leave Juventus at a bit of a deficit. Could the club overcome such a huge loss entering into the 2016-2017 campaign?
As of this moment the answer appears to be yes. Thanks to several key additions (mostly notably Miralem Pjanic, Dani Alves, and some guy named Gonzalo Higuain) and the infusion of younger talent The Old Lady appear to be primed to capture their sixth consecutive Serie A title. The hope is that this squad can dream bigger and recapture the Champions League title. But the fear is that an aging defense may hinder those aspirations.
So with that in mind let’s look at the three hopes and one fear of Juventus.
