Tottenham were fortunate to emerge with a draw

Make no mistake about it, Tottenham were not firing on all cylinders in yesterday’s draw at Bayern Leverkusen. Despite their obvious struggles, Spurs still return to England with a very valuable point. The trip certainly wasn’t a disaster for Mauricio Pochettino and company.

In truth, it was a match with two entirely different halves of football. Tottenham looked like the much more dangerous side in the opening stanza. Both Vincent Janssen and Erik Lamela stung the bar in quick succession. If either of their efforts had found the back of the net, it would have been a very different match.

During the second 45 minutes, things changed quite dramatically. Leverkusen battered Spurs for long stretches of play and were also inches away from scoring. Chicharito’s second half effort fully tested the goal line technology. Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris also kept the Bundesliga giants at bay with two sparkling saves.

In the end, Tottenham return home one tiny step closer to advancing to the knockout portion of Champions League competition. Read on to discover how each Spurs player performed against Leverkusen.
