Jan Vertonghen-7
There’s no member of the Spurs squad that misses Toby Alderweireld more than his Belgian teammate. Vertonghen did a good job without his partner yesterday, but just isn’t the same player with Alderweireld isn’t on the pitch.
With that being said, he had a nice performance against Leverkusen. He helped cover for any potential mistakes by Eric Dier and he did help the club keep a clean sheet. It wasn’t a pretty performance for Vertonghen, but it got the job done.
Eric Dier-6
I’d hoped that allowing Dier to return to his roots as a centre back might improve his play. Unfortunately, my hopes were completely unfounded.
Dier’s mediocre play on the season continued against Leverkusen. He didn’t do anything dreadful out on the pitch, but I challenge you to remember anything he did right. It was a barely passable performance for the English international.
