Victor Wanyama-7

In many ways, Wanyama’s performance was a perfect microcosm of how Spurs played on the day. In the first half, he was borderline dominant. In the second half, he was borderline unplayable.

In the end, his 8.5 in the first half combined with his 5.5 in the second half equal an average 7 rating. That’s just how different his play was from one period to the next.

In fairness, it looked as if Wanyama ran out of energy in the second half. He’s played a lot of football as of late and was asked to shield the back four by himself during the opening 45 minutes. The Kenyan destroyer may just need a bit of rest.

Mousa Dembele-5.5

The statistical ratings seem to like Dembele’s performance much more than I did. I thought he was downright poor after coming on as a second half substitute. It was one of the worst performances I’ve seen from Dembele in Pochettino’s tenure.

In fairness, he entered the match during a time when Leverkusen were clearly on the front foot. he struggled mightily to match the pace of their attack as a result. It was a weak performance for Dembele and one he needs to use as motivation to improve his form in the future.
