Inter Milan: Three hopes, one fear
By Sean Maslin
Hope #3: That Jeison Murillo can stay out of trouble.
Last season Jeison Murillo had a bit of an issue staying away from the disciplinary book of the referee. Although his seven yellow cards was on average with the rest of Serie A, his four red cards across all competitions should raise a red flag among supporters.
What’s disappointing is that the Colombian international has shown such promise in a limited time at the San Siro. Working alongside Miranda he has helped Inter develop a very strong defense that can limit attackers chances from the top of the eighteen yard box. In 2015-2016 Inter conceded just 38 goals which was third lowest in all of Serie A. But their trouble with staying out of the referees back pocketed costed the team in several key matches.
That Murillo was sent off in both of Milan’s final two matches is a sign that perhaps the player was a bit too aggressive. That Milan had nine red cards in their eleven losses last season shows that the discipline problem is a bigger than one player.
If Murillo and Inter can stay out of trouble then their defense should keep them in matches and give them a puncher’s chance at a top four finish.
