Tottenham projected starting XI v Bournemouth: Danny Rose will miss out
Defensive Midfielder and Central Defense
While Dele Alli deserves to be one of the first names on Pochettino’s team sheet, Victor Wanyama deserves to be the first name at the moment. The relatively new Spurs star has been excellent since his summer arrival from Southampton.
The Kenyan destroyer just needs to keep doing his job. Spurs don’t need him to bomb forward in attack, they need him to shield the back four. So far, he’s done an excellent job this season at doing what he does best.
Somewhat ironically, he’ll have one defensive midfielder starting ahead of him in Moussa Dembele, and one starting behind him in the form of Eric Dier. Look for the English international to get another start in relief of Alderweireld. He could certainly use a strong match to regain some confidence.
Jan Vertonghen will assume his normal starting position at the left hand side of the centre back pairing. His game does suffer without Alderweireld next to him, but he’s still the best option Spurs have. They may need him to put together another excellent performance to produce another Tottenham clean sheet.
