Manchester United and manager Jose Mourinho are in the midst of a rough patch to say the least.

Two consecutive Premier League draws against Stoke City and Liverpool was followed up by humiliation at Stamford Bridge, as the Special One’s old squad Chelsea steamrolled the Red Devils 4-0 last weekend.

Since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, Manchester United and their supporters have been frustrated by his successors. David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal were unable to live up to one of the most pressure-packed positions in world football. Jose Mourinho was brought in to fill a role that will come with difficulties when searching for success.

Mourinho’s tactics and philosophies set up a possible clash with the main objective at hand. A results-based and often defensive formation that he is known for was not going to change the views of ownership and the supporters. Van Gaal, after all, was let go because of this very reason.

Sitting back and allowing the match to come to them will win over very few. Manchester United and all associated with the club expect a proactive and attractive brand of football. “Parking the bus” is not an approach welcomed with open arms at Old Trafford.

Mourinho made sure to address that fact, and brought in players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba to add to United’s attacking prowess. But recent results have derailed this plan and calls for Jose’s departure become louder and louder. In many ways though, Mourinho is the right man for the position.

As bookies in the UK launch Mourinho up the charts in the Premier League “sack race”, there are certainly reasons why Manchester United should keep moving forward with their current boss.
