Keeper and Centre Backs

I suppose it’s possible that Toby Alderweireld could force his way back into the starting XI this weekend, but I rather doubt it. It’s much more likely that the Belgian will start the match on the bench. Pochettino just isn’t fond of rushing injured playing back into a starting role.

His absence will present Pochettino with a significant challenge. Look for the Argentine to again rely on a starting pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier in central defense. They’ve been good, but not great in Alderweireld’s absence.

In particular, their lack of foot speed could be an issue against Leicester. The likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez will fancy their chances against either Spurs man in a foot race. Whoever starts in central defense will need real contributions from the defensive midfield to control the flow of traffic.

The good news for Tottenham is that they have one of the best keepers in the world behind their back four. Hugo Lloris got a bit of rest this week, but he’ll be back in the starting XI this weekend. Spurs may need a few top-class saves from their captain to gain three points.
