5. Mario Gomez – VfL Wolfsburg

Yes, Mario Gomez only has one goal this season since signing with Wolfsburg this summer. But few forwards have been as prolific in the Bundesliga and leagues all around Europe as the big German striker. Standing well over six feet tall, Gomez brings size and strength to the top of any line-up.

More from Bundesliga

After over 100 goals with Bayern Munich over four seasons from 2009-2013, Gomez moved to Serie A side Fiorentina in the summer of 2013. Injuries unfortunately plagued most of his stay in Italy, but a loan to Turkish champions Besiktas last season showed that Gomez had plenty left in the tank. 26 league goals was good for top scorer and Gomez is keen to show the Bundesliga that he hasn’t slowed down yet.

Few strikers in the world can be as clinical at finishing chances and as dangerous on set pieces as Super Mario. Gomez’s ability to hold up play for teammates to join the attack was a key element for both Bayern Munich and the German national team for many years. With talented attacking midfielders like Julian Draxler in the Wolfsburg squad, a difficult start to 2016-17 could turn around soon for Die Wolfe.

Even at 31 years old, Mario Gomez has the skills and physical tools to be one of the most effective strikers in world football and can be counted on to finish off scoring chances successfully.
