4. Javier Hernandez – Bayer Leverkusen

One the most impactful players to join the Bundesliga last season, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez was perfectly in sync with his new Bayer Leverkusen side. Manager Roger Schmidt’s relentless attacking approach suits the Mexican striker’s skillset and his summer signing paid immediate dividends.

Hernandez scored 26 goals across all competitions and was a constant threat in the opposing half of the pitch. Possessing an incredible sense of timing in front of goal, Chicharito is a poacher at one of the highest possible levels. With five goals already in the 2016-17 campaign, Hernandez is poised for another strong term in the German top flight.

One of the greatest products of Mexican powerhouse Chivas Guadalajara, Hernandez moved to Europe with Manchester United in the summer of 2010 and quickly made his mark on the Premier League. 20 goals across his first season in England made many throughout the continent take note of his incredible scoring touch.

The managerial changes at United after the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson cut into Hernandez’s playing time, culminating in a loan move to Real Madrid for the 2014-15 season. Despite limited appearances and mostly being used as a substitute, the talented centre-forward was still able to find nine goals with Los Blancos.

While Hernandez does not tower over the opposition at the top of the formation, the 28-year old has the vision and positioning ability to create space around him. Expect the goals to keep coming for both Leverkusen and Chicharito moving forward this year.
