3. Anthony Modeste – FC Koln

Once considered an afterthought at clubs in France, Cologne forward Anthony Modeste has blossomed in the Bundesliga and is in the midst of an incredible run of form. Modeste currently leads the German first division with eight goals in eight matches.

Size, power and blistering pace comprise Anthony Modeste’s unique combination of skills that can frustrate any Bundesliga defence. The 28-year old led Cologne in scoring with 15 league goals last season, his first since arriving last June.

Coming up in his early years with the youth system of Ligue 1 side OGC Nice, Modeste grabbed attention during a successful loan spell at Angers SCO during the 2009-10 season. The goals he scored that year led to a transfer to Bordeaux, but Modeste struggled for playing time within a talented squad. Loan spells with Blackburn Rovers and SC Bastia each brought unique challenges and did not work out as planned for the clubs and for Modeste.

But a move to the Bundesliga with Hoffenheim in 2013 ultimately put the young Frenchman on an upward trajectory.

Two successful seasons with Hoffenheim and a strong campaign with Cologne have set Modeste up for even further success. Currently sitting fifth in the Bundesliga table, Cologne and Anthony Modeste will continue their rise together.
