5 reasons why Borussia Dortmund will finish top of their Champions League group
On their return to the Champions League after a one year absence, Borussia Dortmund have made a ruthless start which saw the Bundesliga club put six past Legia Warsaw and two past Real Madrid.
Following their 0-0 stalemate in the Revierderby against Schalke at the weekend, sporting director Michael Zorc insisted that Borussia Dortmund must have a focus on the league, but this doesn’t mean they will shy away from the Champions League.
Borussia Dortmund were of course involved in that special fixture against Liverpool which saw the prodigy, Thomas Tuchel, meet his old foe, Jurgen Klopp, as the German club took on Liverpool.
For a place in the Europa League semi-final last season, a Mats Hummels equaliser in the first leg meant that Dortmund had to player Liverpool, at Anfield, needing to at least score an away goal.
Fans however got more than they bargained for. Tuchel found his Dortmund team two goals up in the opening 10 minutes, and before long, they lead 3-1 away from home.
A collapse resulted in a Dejan Lovren goal in added time that sent Borussia Dortmund out of the competition at such an important stage. This loss against Liverpool will only fuel Tuchel and Dortmund’s desire to again succeed on the European stage.
Drawn in a tough group which also includes Sporting CP, they have more than enough quality and desire to top Group F, and this is why they are going to do so.
