5 reasons why Borussia Dortmund will finish top of their Champions League group
They’re hailed as “one of the best clubs” in Europe
After their 6-0 stomping of Legia Warsaw on their return to the Champions League, Legia head coach Besnik Hasi had nothing but respect for the German club.
"“Dortmund are one of the best teams in Europe,” said Hasi."
“I had the opportunity to coach against BVB two years ago with Anderlecht. It was a tough game for us. We were not able to get out of our own half in the first 30 minutes, they pinned us back in defence. So I know how difficult it is to play against them.”
When people think of the best teams in Europe, football fans instantly think of the Manchester United of 1999 that won in the dying minutes against Bayern Munich.
They also think of Johan Cruyff’s Ajax and any team under Pep Guardiola, specifically his Barcelona side that dominated Europe. Not to mention that Carlo Ancelotti has three Champions League medals to his name, whilst Jose Mourinho has two.
Whether it’s this season or one down the line, Thomas Tuchel is a manager who could add his name to that elite list soon – especially given how he’s transformed this Borussia Dortmund team in just over one season.
The Bundesliga often gets criticised for being a one team league, but Borussia Dortmund’s performances last season against Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool show that they’re not just a one trick pony.
Not many teams can give Real Madrid or a ‘top’ European club a run for their money, but Dortmund are most definitely one of them.
