A new football philosophy under Thomas Tuchel

Offering a more measured approach to football in today’s day and age, Thomas Tuchel has installed a new type of football which no longer involves “gengenpress” that Jurgen Klopp’s side were famous for, but instead has a hint of tiki-taka.

In his debut season as head coach of Borussia Dortmund, Tuchel finished the Bundesliga’s best ever runners-up last term in the league, which would have delivered the league title in all but four of the previous 52 Bundesliga campaigns.

In the Champions League this campaign, Borussia Dortmund already have 10 goals in just three games, which includes two against current holders Real Madrid.

As previously mentioned when fans think of successful teams, they instantly think of any team managed by Jose Mourinho or Pep Guardiola in the current day and age.

Believe it or not, Bayern Munich have looked a shadow of the side they were last season, albeit under new management, being Carlo Ancelotti.

Borussia Dortmund are the Bundesliga’s second top scorers this season, with goals coming from all over the pitch, not just Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has seven for the season.

Kid prodigy Christian Pulisic has two for the season, as does Gonzalo Castro, Raphael Guerreiro, Adrian Ramos and Lukas Piszczek. Not to mention, Marco Reus is yet to feature this season for Borussia Dortmund.

Although they have no problems going forward, Tuchel and his coaching staff do need to work on their defensive shape.

All too often, they’re caught out on the break. With Sokratis being their only recognised defender, Tuchel has been forced to play Marc Matthias Ginter – who was on the fringes last season – and Marc Bartra, who is still finding his feet in Dortmund following his move from Barcelona in the summer.
