5 reasons why Borussia Dortmund will finish top of their Champions League group
They’ve already beaten Real Madrid in the past
If they are to finish at the summit of Group F, then Borussia Dortmund need to get a result at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid, be it a draw or all three points.
In 2013, they did beat Real Madrid. Four goals from Poland international Robert Lewandowski helped Borussia Dortmund cruise to victory in the semi-final. It’s his performance alone that ultimately put die Schwarzgelben into the final that year.

They may have lost 2-0 in the return leg at the iconic stadium in 2013, but with this new squad and football philosophy under Thomas Tuchel, Borussia Dortmund are more than capable in getting a result in Spain this time around.
After defeating Real Madrid for a place in the 2013 final, Borussia Dortmund were drawn against the Spanish giants in the group stages the following season.
Although a 3-0 drubbing at the Bernabeu, Dortmund did manage to beat Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion following a brace from Marco Reus. Although they’re likely to be without the Germany international this time around, they welcome back Mario Gotze who is slowly finding his form again following his return from Bayern Munich.
Thomas Tuchel knows his side have more than enough quality to beat Real Madrid in their own back yard come December. Although they will have to be at their very best.
