Back Arsenal to win on Sunday

One of the most anticipated fixtures of the 2016-17 Premier League season takes place on Sunday afternoon, as Arsenal host Tottenham Hotspur in the first of two North London derbies. Emirates Stadium will be the site and with both clubs off to a strong league start, the match promises to be a memorable one.

Meetings between the two clubs are full of emotion for the players and supporters alike. Seemingly more often than not, the derbies also produce goals. A lot of goals.

A 5-4 Arsenal victory at White Hart Lane in 2004 incredibly managed to see nine different players score a goal, as Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira led the Gunners to a thrilling victory. Tottenham stormed back late in a 2008 match that featured a 4-4 final score, with Aaron Lennon equalising in the final moments for Spurs.

The 2010-11 Premier League season saw an entertaining 3-3 draw, while consecutive 5-2 home victories for Arsenal highlighted the 2012 calendar year.

The rivalry between the two sides can be traced back as far as 1887, with Arsenal’s move to Highbury in 1913 setting their current geography into place. With their home grounds located only a few miles apart from one another, the North London derby brings about an intensity and passion that make for a truly special occasion.

Previewing the action on the pitch, we take a look at why Arsenal are the favourites heading into Sunday and why they will secure all three points at home against Tottenham.
