Centre Backs and Keeper

Let’s start with the easiest selection on the afternoon. Hugo Lloris is a lock to start for Spurs in goal. Michel Vorm is a capable backup, but there’s zero chance he steps onto the pitch Sunday absent injury or illness.

In all honesty, I don’t think there’s a ton of drama involved in the centre back selections either. Jan Vertonghen will certainly start at the left centre back spot. He’s firmly claimed that position as his own whether or not Alderweireld is capable of joining him in the lineup.

I’ve seen a little bit of internet chatter that Spurs fans would like to see Kevin Wimmer or even Cameron Carter-Vickers start next to Vertonghen. I, for one, would be stunned if that happens.

Expect Pochettino to give Eric Dier another start in the Derby. He hasn’t played well at all this season, but his experience gives him the edge over the other options. Dier will face a stern task trying to deal with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
