Ranking Arsenal’s summer signings

Arsenal have started the 2016-17 Premier League season in fine form, currently sitting third in the league standings. A record of 7-2-1 puts the club only two points behind current leaders Chelsea. Other than a defeat in the opening week against Liverpool, the North London side have gone unbeaten across all competitions.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is often derided by pundits and on social media for his transfer market moves and activities. He is viewed as a man who makes business decisions first, as opposed to doing whatever is possible to secure the players that the Gunners need in their squad.

Wenger focuses on certain areas when making a choice on a possible target. When discussing the topic this past summer just before the start of the Premier League season, the Frenchman detailed what he looks for in the transfer market.

“The price of a player is down to four ingredients. One is the talent, two his age, three is how much you expect him to improve your team, and four his resale value. If he ticks all four boxes then the price is not that important. You have to find the player.”

While this measured and careful approach may frustrate supporters from time to time, Wenger has his plan and he sticks to that plan moving ahead. Sure, headline-grabbing signings like Gonzalo Higuain and Alexandre Lacazette would have been massive but Wenger did still bring in pieces that will influence this season and future years.

We take a look at Arsenal’s summer signings and rank them based on how well they have done already, and the potential that they have for future success in the team.
