Barcelona could use any one of these five additions

In the summer, it seemed as though Barcelona did everything right. Positions in the team which had needed strengthening for a long time appeared to have been filled, particularly in defence, while the overall squad depth was improved.

Defenders Samuel Umtiti and Lucas Digne came in to help finally answer questions over the Blaugrana’s ability to keep the ball out of their own net, with no doubts cast over their ability to score. Andre Gomes and Denis Suarez now offer coach Luis Enrique options in midfield besides the incomparable trio of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic and Andres Iniesta, and they could come in handy with the latter injured.

Up front, of course, it is hard to add quality when Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar are at your service, but Paco Alcacer was signed from Valencia to offer both competition and cover for the fabled trio.

Yet everything has not clicked, with the Catalan giants currently sitting behind arch-rivals Real Madrid in LaLiga, and while it is unlikely they will enter the winter transfer market in January, it is always an option. Here are five possible targets who could be pursued in the New Year.
