2.) Montreal Impact
Montreal Impact is still very new to the table, having just started MLS play in 2012. This fan base has yet to experience any real success outside of a shocking run in the CONCACAF Champions League finals in 2014 (Canadian Championships hardly count in my book).
For their first three years of MLS existence, this club bounced around as somewhat of the whipping boy in the east going a combined 32W-47L-23D. Then a year ago everything changed. Didier Drogba brought this middling MLS club to the world’s attention and success soon followed in the honeymoon phase of the relationship. On the back of Drogba and Ignacio Piatti, Montreal rose all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals before Columbus knocked them out.
This season Drogba’s time has been markedly worse, but the club has continued success without him. Because of their lack of big time trophies, the Impact comes in second on my list. The fans have been very good in their support of the club since its MLS inception, but the support has been somewhat niche. An MLS Cup coming north to Canada would help build a very much fledgling soccer culture and that along with no major trophies is why they are second.
