If not for the New York Red Bulls, Toronto might just have the league’s most frustrating history.  Since coming to MLS in 2007 Toronto has been downright horrible.  They found inept DP signings, lost in every manner imaginable and didn’t even sniff the playoffs until a year ago.

Despite all this lack of success, Toronto FC has always been a wonderfully supported club, almost always capable of boasting north of 20,000 in attendance their matches.  In recent years the ownership has spent lavishly on, this time, quality DPs in Michael Bradley, Jozy Altidore, and Sebastian Giovinco.  The results still haven’t been nearly as quality as they should be considering just how good this troika is, but this year that could change.

Toronto tops the list because they are basically Montreal, with a longer history of not winning things.  Whoever comes out of this Eastern Conference Finals will have Canada’s first chance to win an MLS Cup.

This might not come off as a popular sentiment, but Toronto needs to win the club to continue to build their national soccer culture and end a drought of major trophies for the club.
