The Playing For 90 staff chimes in with their USA vs. Mexico predictions for tomorrow’s qualifier.

On 11/11, the US Men’s national team will face off with the rival Mexican national team.  The two sides have had countless battles over the years, and this match up in Columbus, Ohio will surely have some fireworks as well. Some of the talented writers here at Playing For 90 offered their predictions.

Roy Emanuel

Score: 2-2 draw

Thoughts: US always play well in Columbus and will challenge Mexico, but Mexico’s quality and current form will get a result.

Carson A. Merk

Score: 1-0 USMNT

Thoughts: I think it’s a back and forth match with a few big chances missed for each side. I think it’s a defender that somehow finds the net for the Yanks. I’ll go on a limb and say it’s Birnbaum on a set piece.

Matt English

Score: 2-1 USA
Thoughts: With Jozy Altidore in great form recently, its hard to see Mexico stopping him. Peralta will score for them, but Wood and Altidore both score for the USA.

Thuya Kyaw

Score: 2-1 USMNT

Thoughts: Although Mexico does have better individuals, USA has a huge home advantage. Also, let’s not forget Mexican players are still struggling with Osorio’s constant changes to the line up and their identity is kind of lost right now. Meanwhile, USA has some good players in form and they have a better chemistry between each other and the coach. Given that this game will be in Columbus, it’s hard to see USA dropping points. Maybe that famous “dos a cero” score line won’t repeat, but USA will still grind out a win.

Ryan Willox

Score: 2-1 USMNT

Thoughts: The weather won’t be a factor to the extent it has been in previous Columbus games. Despite that, I think the US will just have a little bit too much for Mexico on home soil. The teams are in decent form but there’s seems to be a huge amount of pressure on Osorio for reasons I just don’t quite get. I think this goes to the wire and an unexpected hero nicks it for America.

John Harbeck

Score: 2-0 USA

Thoughts: 2-0 because well, Dos a Cero. More seriously, I believe that Mexico are a better team but with the match being held in Columbus, the US should be able to defend home soil.

Shana Willeford

Score: 3-2 USMNT

Thoughts: I just truly believe that our offense and defense has what it takes to step up to a big, rivalry match like this and get the job done.

Sean Maslin

Score: 2-1 USMNT
Thoughts: Interesting times in Ohio! Midfield play is going to determine who comes out on top. Mexico has the advantage on the side but Pulisic should have large swaths of area to play around with on the outside.

Results:

USMNT win: 7  Mexico win: 0 Draw: 1
