5. Diego Godin
Manchester United’s defending has looked shaky in recent weeks. Jose Mourinho is reportedly unimpressed by Chris Smalling. Eric Bailly, meanwhile is out with a long-term injury following a solid start to his Old Trafford career. That has forced Mourinho to go with left-back Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind as his centre-back pairing.

With Chris Smalling and Phil Jones being so injury-prone, United could well bring in a centre-back in January. And no one in Europe is currently a better fit than Diego Godin. The 30-year-old has a £30 million release clause, and with money not an issue for United, Godin could be swapping Madrid for Manchester in January.
The Uruguayan has become one of the best centre-backs in the world at Atletico Madrid. Godin is a leader and a warrior, something Manchester United fans haven’t seen since the days of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. He is not afraid to put his body on the line and would give United a real fighting spirit. Godin also has a knack for goals from set pieces which has been another area of struggle for United.
He has become a key part of Atletico’s success over the years and Jose Mourinho could be set to bring him to Old Trafford in January.
