5. Rio Ferdinand

Yes, you read that right, and yes, I know Rio Ferdinand is retired from football. But Manchester United should still consider signing the former England international as a coach.

When Jose Mourinho was appointed, Ryan Giggs decided to leave, meaning that none of Mourinho’s staff had been at the club before. If Mourinho wants to change that, he should consider appointing Rio Ferdinand who spent 12 years at the club as a player. Ferdinand has a vast knowledge of the club, and is considered to be a club legend.

More from Manchester United

He has played with a lot of the current Manchester United players, and he still shares great rapport with some of them including David de Gea, Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick. Rio has been impressive in the punditry role he has taken up since retirement.

Bringing a player like Rio to the coaching staff would be a popular move among both fans and his players. Rio already has ambitions to move into coaching, and he would agree without blinking an eye if Mourinho asks him to come to United.
